Summer Book Groups

Later this summer, there will be two opportunities for members of Trinity to get together to discuss books related to spirituality and the life of faith. On Sunday, July 1, and again on Sunday, August 5, there will be two discussion groups that meet at 9:00 am.

On Sunday, July 1, we’ll discuss the following books (click the titles to see the Amazon page for each book).

  • Dean Jones will lead a discussion about Tim Keller’s The Prodigal God: Recovering the Heart of the Christian Faith (Penguin: 2011). This book uses the well-known parable of the “prodigal son” as a means of exploring the meaning and experience of Christian faith. This group will meet in Satterlee Hall.
  • Canon Lockett will lead a discussion about Makoto Fujimura’s Culture Care: Reconnecting with Beauty for Our Common Life (IVP: 2017) . This book, by a prominent contemporary visual artist who is also a Christian, examines the connections between beauty, creativity, generosity, and common culture. This group will meet in the Stirling Room.

On Sunday, August 5, we’ll discuss the following books(click the titles to see the Amazon page for each book).

  • Canon Grosso will lead a discussion about Michael Ramsey’s The Anglican Spirit (Seabury: 2004). This book is a reprint of a modern classic by an Archbishop of Canterbury, and provides a concise but comprehensive survey of Anglican history, faith, and spirituality. This group will meet in Satterlee Hall.
  • Canon Lockett will lead a discussion about Margaret Guenther’s At Home in the World: a Rule of Life for the Rest of Us (Seabury: 2006). This book applies insights and wisdom from Benedictine spirituality to the practice of faith in daily life. This group will meet in the Stirling Room.

All are welcome; come, and bring a friend.

If you have any questions about any of these discussion groups, contact Canon Grosso (agrosso@trinitysc.org) or the person designated to lead the group you’re interested in.
